Hula Booth and the Cloud

We don't use our own servers at Hula Booth - this means we can't crash! Here's what may happen if the cloud servers we integrate with to deliver your events do go down and what alternatives there are.

How Hula Booth Works with the Cloud

Event Creation

  • Events are created locally on iPad
  • Events are run locally on iPad

No Cloud Required to Create, Edit or Run/Start Events.

Sharing

AirDrop
  • Local only (no cloud required)
Email
  • Uses Hula Booth's Postmark account for email delivery.
  • No other cloud required as files are attached to the email directly.
  • Option to manually configure your own email server (e.g. G Suite, Mailgun, etc.)
SMS
  • Uses Twilio or MessageBird for SMS delivery.
  • Requires a cloud storage option to send the file link.
Cloud Storage
  • Can use either Dropbox or OneDrive for syncing files to the cloud.

What Happens if there is a Storm?

Cloud services have the potential to go down. Even though we use the big players in the industry, and none of our own servers, they still have the potential to come crashing down.

Below is a quick explainer on what will happen if each service goes down, as well as mitigation plans to get you through an event.

If Postmark Goes Down

What Happens: Email sending stops working.

Solutions:

  • Configure your own SMTP server to continue sharing via email.
  • Disable email sharing and use SMS and/or AirDrop sharing.

If Twilio Goes Down

What Happens: SMS messages stop sending.

Solutions:

  • Switch to MessageBird to continue sharing via SMS.
  • Disable SMS sharing and use email and/or AirDrop sharing

If MessageBird Goes Down

What Happens: SMS messages stop sending.

Solutions:

  • Switch to Twilio to continue sharing via SMS.
  • Disable SMS sharing and use email and/or AirDrop.

If Twilio AND MessageBird Go Down

What Happens: SMS messages stop sending.

Solutions:

  • Disable SMS sharing and use email and/or AirDrop sharing.

If Dropbox Goes Down

What Happens:

Cloud file sync stops working so photos no longer upload to a shared directory, meaning:

  • SMS sharing stops working (as share links for SMS are no longer available).
  • Photos are not available in the cloud after event.

Solutions:

  • Switch to OneDrive to continue as normal.
  • Disable SMS sharing and use email and/or AirDrop sharing.
  • Save photos to camera roll for manual upload after event.

If OneDrive Goes Down

What Happens:

Cloud file sync stops working so photos no longer upload to a shared directory, meaning:

  • SMS sharing stops working (as share links for SMS are no longer available).
  • Photos are not available in the cloud after event.

Solutions:

  • Switch to Dropbox to continue as normal.
  • Disable SMS sharing and use email and/or AirDrop sharing.
  • Save photos to camera roll for manual upload after event.

If Dropbox AND OneDrive Go Down

Cloud file sync stops working so photos no longer upload to a shared directory, meaning:

  • Photos are not available in the cloud after event.

Solutions:

  • Disable SMS sharing and use email and/or AirDrop sharing.
  • Save photos to camera roll for manual upload after event.
