We're Changing Our Billing System... Again

Hula Booth's billing system is changing once again, but this time it's out of our control.

We know what you’re thinking… “Didn’t Hula just change their billing system?”.

Yep, but this time it’s out of our control.

Unfortunately, in the time since we changed billing systems, Apple has changed a few words in their regulations for multi-platform apps (read clause “3.1.3.(b) Multi-Platform Services” here - but be warned, it’s very boring!), which means we have to make changes to our app.

While the original clause stated:
“...you agree not to directly or indirectly target iOS users to use a purchasing method

other than in-app purchases.”

The new clause now states:

“...provided those items are also available as in-app purchases within the app.”

What this means is that we now have to provide the option of in-app purchases which will be billed through Apple, whereas our current system requires you to upgrade on our website and uses a different third-party application for billing. Before this change, as long as we didn’t link to our own website or hint as to how you could subscribe without using Apple, we were not required to provide the option of an in-app purchase.

Until changes were made, Apple rejected all updates to the app (and we’ve tried many times!), so this is an issue we’ve been working hard for the past few months to resolve.

Although we could technically maintain the two billing systems, to save Hula users from confusion and the possibility of being billed twice, we will now solely be using Apple’s method.

So, what does this mean for you?

If you’re still a free user, there are absolutely no changes to how you use the app!

If you’re currently on a free trial, the good news is that you get another 7-day trial by following the steps below.

If you’re an existing paid user, we’ll reach out to you individually to help transition you over. This update will not come at any extra cost to you.

To upgrade your account once the update launches, at the bottom of all settings pages and all pages that show before an event is launched you will see a banner prompting you to subscribe to Hula Booth Pro. You will need to enter your Apple ID which will start the new subscription.

We thank you for your understanding and hope you’re excited for some awesome features that are coming your way in this update!

If you have any concerns about this change, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us here.
